News You Can Use
We will keep you informed with monthly updates, maybe more often as we grow into this phase. We will be keeping you informed to things that pertain to your swimming pool with updates about new equipment, advice for taking care of your pool and maybe some fun things that are going on around the area and around your pool.

New Innovations
The swimming pool industry is constantly growing and developing new and better products. I learned a long time ago to not subject my personal pool owners to experimental products. Make sure they are proven before jumping off the deep end. Pentair Pool recently purchased Sta-Rite. I am still an advocate of Sta-Rite Pumps & Filters. Last year Pentair came out with what they call the IntelliFlo Pump. This is a variable speed motor and it is extremely efficient. Next year Sta-Rite will be coming out with their version of the IntelliFlo attached to the Sta-Rite Pump. SMUD and PG&E are offering rebates for these items, you can download information and forms from the SMUD web-site. Visit our web-site links page for links to Pentair and Sta-Rite.

For The Existing Pool
We have had lots of evaporation and water loss through the summer. You may want to take a water sample into your favorite pool supply and have them test for stabilizer. It is important to keep the correct amount of stabilizer in the water so that the chlorine can work at the optimum level.

A large percentage of you have a salt system on your pool. (Aren't they great!) You should check the plates and make sure they don't need cleaning. This is a simple process. The cell is on your return side of the equipment, after the heater or filter. It is held in place with two large union nuts. These should be hand tight and have a o-ring to prevent any leaking. First wash the white scale off the plates with a high pressure nozzle. If this doesn't remove the scale use a muratic acid solution, 4 parts water to 1 part muratic acid. Use chemical rubber gloves, anything other than metal, to place the cell into a 5 gallon plastic bucket. Pour the acid solution into the bucket just enough to cover the cell. Soak until foaming stops or a maximum of 1/2 hour. Remove with chemical rubber gloves, NOT ANYTHING METAL, rinse plates and place back into cell. If foaming action doesn't start, the plates do not need to be soaked. Remove the plates and replace into the cell.
